JS Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
JS stands for John Swarbrick, a designer from a boatbuilding family in Western Australia. His earlier work includes the Kookaburra twelve metres and the Whitbread 60 Tokio. With the JS 9000 he drew a sportsboat of about 30 feet, shipped out from Australia. It can be sailed singlehanded or raced with three or four crew. The rig gives it away: a self-tacking, non-overlapping jib, an asymmetric spinnaker tacked to the bow and no backstay. Underneath sits a light, narrow hull with deep appendages and a large bulb on the keel, which lifts so that the boat can travel on a trailer.
Our model records list one design: the JS 9000, entered as a sailing yacht of 9.12 metres. The recorded build years run from 1999 to 2008, and no entry reaches the most recent build years. JS Yachts is therefore represented by this single boat, a sportsboat just over nine metres that moves between race course and afternoon sail. The boats were built in Australia and shipped from there to their owners, Europe included. At just over nine metres the JS 9000 is a large sportsboat, yet thanks to its lifting keel it can still travel by road.
A light sportsboat with a deep bulb keel is sensitive to its appendages. On a used JS 9000 the lifting keel mechanism, the keel case and the bulb attachment deserve the first look, followed by the rudder bearings. A mast without a backstay depends on correct shroud tension, so check the chainplates and the mast step for any sign of movement. Sails age quickly on a boat that has been raced hard. The trailer matters too: a keel that is lowered and raised at every regatta wears its fittings, and the road trailer needs to carry the bulb safely.

For the JS 9000 by JS Yachts series the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the JS 9000 by JS Yachts series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
