Its name is tied above all to the Miura 31, a cruising sloop drawn by Oswald Berckemeyer and first built in 1978. The hull is glassfibre, the rig a masthead sloop, and below the waterline she carries a fin keel with the rudder hung on the transom. That transom hung blade is the quickest way to pick out a Miura in a marina. Today the boats are found mainly in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the Mediterranean. Berckemeyer later drew the BM31 Miura2, an updated version of the design meant for home builders and young families.
