Nordica Yacht ApS is a Danish yard which, according to a Dutch yacht broker, has been in business since 1969. Its best known design is the Nordica 430 SD, the letters standing for Sundeck, drawn by the designer Rolf Eliasson. The hull is a GRP sandwich with a Divinycell core, round-bilged, with a lead-ballasted fin keel and a sloop rig above. On the pontoon a Nordica gives itself away through its sheltered cockpit under a targa roof, a deck saloon with an opening roof and a sun deck aft. The boat was conceived for long passages and can be handled by one person.
Our model records list two designs, both sailing yachts of 12.8 metres. The Nordica is recorded for the years 1991 to 1998, the Nordica 430 Sundeck for 1991 to 2000. Both lines therefore start in the same year, with the Sundeck version staying in production two years longer. Neither design reaches into recent build years, so the youngest boats from this yard in our records are now around a quarter of a century old. A sandwich hull of this age deserves a moisture survey before purchase, since water that has crept into the core around deck fittings is the classic weak point of the method.
