Premier Composite Technologies was founded in 2006 in the United Arab Emirates and works out of Dubai. The yard is run by the German brothers Hannes and Max Waimer, who back in 1988 built carbon spreaders and a carbon rudder for Dennis Conner's Stars & Stripes. Its trade is racing boats in carbon composite, many of them drawn by Farr Yacht Design in the United States and Carkeek Design Partners in South Africa. The Farr 400 was one of the first production sailing yachts built entirely in carbon and epoxy sandwich. What ties the range together is less a family look than a method: light carbon hulls made for the race course.

The Landmark 43 comes first, from 2004, followed by the Farr 11s in 2005, the Ker 53 in 2006 and the Farr 400 in 2008. The youngest entry is the Maxi 72 Cannonball from 2017, at 21.95 metres the largest boat on the list, while the Farr 280 is the smallest at 8.72 metres. Nothing in our records runs beyond 2021.

Carbon race boats age differently from cruising yachts. A used one may have a long regatta history, and every grounding, collision or hard landing off a wave can leave damage hidden inside the laminate. Ultrasound or tap testing around the keel, rudder bearings and chainplates is worth the money. Rigs, sails and electronics are often replaced on a racing schedule, so their age matters as much as the hull's. Many of these boats spend more time on trailers, cradles and cranes than at a berth, which puts loads on the hull wherever it sits on supports.
