Pursuit Boats; cover, cost and conditions

Pursuit builds fishing and sport boats in Florida. The range began in 1977 at a Michigan yard that had until then built sailing yachts and wanted to add a line of fishing boats; in 1983 a works of its own was built at Fort Pierce on Florida's east coast, where building continues. The range is ordered by layout: C for the centre console, DC for the dual console with seating, S for the sport version and OS for the offshore model with a cabin. You recognise the boats by the high sharply cut bow, the wide side deck and the very cleanly finished deck gear.

Our model records list 38 Pursuit models, 36 of them motorboats and two motor yachts. Build years start in 2001 and run into current production. Thirty eight series are recorded: the C models 230, 238 and 260; the DC models 235, 246, 265, 266, 295, 326 and 365; the S models 268, 288, 328, 378 and 428; and the OS models 235, 325, 355 and 385. The three figure number gives the length in feet and tenths, so a Pursuit 328 measures around 32.8 feet or ten metres. Lengths run from 7 to 13.3 metres, half the models between 8.3 and 11.1 metres.

A yard that spent its first years building sailing yachts brings something to a fishing boat that a fishing yard does not: an eye for how the deck is finished and how the interior is joined. On a boat of this kind that is not decoration, since everything on deck is handled wet and in a hurry, and the quality of the fittings is what decides how long it lasts.
