Qrafter Boats; cover, cost and conditions

Qrafter Boats is based in Oudewater in the Netherlands, where the workshop and the showroom sit side by side. The company was founded in 2016 and has been building contemporary tender sloops and lounge boats ever since. Two features define every boat: an aluminium hull and a drive that is purely electric. The builder describes its range as fully electric aluminium tender sloops. Each boat is assembled at the company's own yard and put together to the buyer's wishes. In Dutch boating, a sloop is the classic open leisure boat for canals and lakes, low in the water and generous with seating, made for unhurried trips with family and friends. That outline, and the silence that comes with having no combustion engine, is what gives a Qrafter away.

Our model records hold one design from the brand, the Qrafter E-Cruiser 680. It is listed as a motorboat of 6.8 metres with build years from 2021 to 2025. On the builder's own website the line is now spelt e-Qruiser, with a smaller 600, the 680+ and a larger 800 offered alongside each other. The figure in the name gives the length in centimetres, which places the 680 in the middle of the range. None of our entries reaches into the most recent build years, and the earliest boats on record date from 2021. The picture is a compact one: a single line, a single length and five build years, all of them young boats from one workshop.

Living with an electric aluminium boat is mostly about the batteries. They last longest when they are not left fully empty or fully charged for weeks, and a winter spent in a frost free place with a maintenance charge helps them through the cold months. Aluminium does not need antifouling in the same way a composite hull does, but mixing metals below the waterline invites galvanic corrosion, so anodes deserve a regular look. Most sloops spend their days on canals and lakes at low speed, with frequent stops at jetties and locks. When buying a used one, ask for the battery health report and the charging history, check the cables and plugs for heat marks, and look at the hull for dents from lock walls.
