SIC Maui builds SUP boards for racing and downwind; Bullet and RS are competition boards, Okeanos a touring and downwind board, with values in the middle to upper four-figure range for the carbon versions. These boards are used on the open sea, in downwind conditions and at competitions.
The field of use determines the cruising range question. Downwind paddling and ocean racing take place on the open sea, not on an inland lake, and for that you need the appropriate cruising range level. For the North Sea and the Baltic the corresponding level applies, for the Canaries, Madeira or Hawaii the worldwide one. Report training camps and competitions before the trip.
Competitions are not included in standard hull insurance. With a race board, however, competition is the purpose, and the typical damage arises there: collision at the start, damage in the board store, breakage on a hard landing in the surf. For these boards the racing inclusion is a precondition for a sensible policy. We do not offer third-party liability for muscle-powered craft.
