Stott Craft; cover, cost and conditions
Stott Craft is a Florida boatbuilder founded in 1979 and run by the Stott family, with its plant in McIntosh in the north of the state. The company builds glassfibre powerboats meant for fishing and utility work. Hulls are laid up by hand and stiffened with stringers so they do not flex under load, and options include swim platforms and freshwater systems. Alongside boats, the company also builds swimming pools. The SCV 202, the middle model, measures 20 feet 2 inches with a beam of 7 feet 9 inches, is rated for outboards of 90 to 140 horsepower and carries about 151 litres of fuel.
Our model records list three motorboats, all from the SCV range and all from 2018: the SCV 172 at 5.24 metres, the SCV 202 at 6.16 metres and the SCV 2160 at 6.59 metres. All three continue into the most recent build years. The figures in the names roughly give the length in feet, the 172 standing for just over 17 feet and the 202 for just over 20. In our records the range therefore spans boats from a little over five to about six and a half metres, sizes that move on an ordinary road trailer. No older years or cabin boats of the brand are recorded.
A hand-laid hull with stringers is sturdy, but it still wants an honest look on a used boat. Check the transom around the outboard bolts for soft spots or cracking, and sound the deck near rod holders and other fittings where water can get in. Saltwater use means flushing the outboard after every trip and rinsing the trailer, whose brakes and bearings suffer first. A boat imported from the United States may need its wiring and navigation lights checked against local rules. Fishing boats tend to carry plenty of electronics, so a buyer should test the sounder, plotter and pumps before agreeing on anything.
