Strømmens Værksted was a large Norwegian engineering works at Strømmen near Lillestrøm, founded in 1873 by Wincentz Thurmann Ihlen. It made its name with railway carriages, trams and buses, and in 1929 built a bus with a self-supporting aluminium body. From 1965 the works also produced glassfibre boats under the Trifoil name. They were designed by the sailor and Olympic champion Peder Lunde junior. The boats were self-draining, were exported and found use with the military and police. At the end of the 1960s Fjord Plast bought the Trifoil plastic boat business. The industrial site at Strømmen remained in operation until the end of 2011.

Those years fall after the boat business was sold to Fjord Plast, so the brand name in the record follows the origin of the design rather than necessarily the place where every boat was built. The line does not reach into recent build years, and the youngest recorded boat is more than four decades old. At just over four metres, the Trifoil 70 Luxus is a small open outboard boat of the kind Norwegians use on fjords, among skerries and for trips to the cabin.
On a glassfibre boat from the seventies, the self-draining cockpit is worth checking first: the drains and scuppers must be clear and the sole sound, or the feature works against the boat. Look for soft spots in the floor and transom, where an outboard bracket puts load into the laminate. Gelcoat on hulls of this age often shows crazing that is cosmetic, but cracks around fittings deserve a closer look. Small boats like this are often kept on a trailer or pulled up at a cabin, so keel bands and the underside take wear. A modest outboard is all the design needs, and an oversized motor does it no favours.
