Worth knowing
Sunliner; cover, cost and conditions
Sunliner is listed in our records as a sports boat brand of the 1970s and early 1980s. We found no reliable source on the maker's base or history, and in our data the Sunliner name also turns up as a model name at other yards, so this page relies on the model records alone. The boats carry Sunliner ahead of a model name that mostly starts with Sun, such as Sunsport, Sunray and Sunswift, with Continental and Weekender for the larger boats. All are motorboats between 4.2 and 7 metres.
Our records list six Sunliner motorboats. Five lines begin in 1974 and the Sunray 18 follows in 1975. Most end in 1981, the Sunray 18 in 1982 and the Sunsport in 1983, making it the longest running line. Lengths run from 4.2 metres for the Sunswift to 7 metres for the Continental, with the Sunsport at 5.4 metres, the Sunray and Sunray 18 at 5.5 metres each and the Weekender at 6.3 metres. Four of the six stay under six metres.
A Sunliner is now a classic of more than forty years, light enough to tow and happiest on a lake, a river or a calm stretch of coast. Many have been restored, and a sound transom, dry stringers and a well serviced engine count for more than shiny gelcoat. Kept on a trailer under a tarp in a dry place over winter, such a boat can give many more summers.
