Worth knowing
VT-Sport Sp. z o.o.; cover, cost and conditions
VT-Sport comes from Poland and reached boatbuilding by an unusual route. The family firm was set up in 2003 to make sledges, moved into boats in 2011 and later ran the boat side as its own business. The yard sits about an hour from Szczecin near Lake Dąbie. Under the VTS name it builds small classic runabouts drawn from the outset for electric drive, with hybrid and petrol options as well. Hulls are laid up by hand in glass-reinforced polyester. The boats are easy to recognise by their deep black mirror-finish gelcoat, teak deck, tinted windscreen and upholstered seating.
Our model records list five motorboats between 2.75 and 5.71 metres. The Flying Shark family starts with the VTS21 Flying Shark at 4.21 metres, recorded from 2012 to 2019. From 2016 come the VTS21 Flying Shark 4.2 at 4.25 metres and the VTS21 Flying Shark 5.7 at 5.71 metres, both still running in the latest build years. The Redbird line includes the VTS Redbird 2.7, at 2.75 metres the smallest boat, listed from 2018 to date, and the VTS Redbird 5.7 at 5.71 metres from 2017 to 2021. Three of the five designs are therefore in current production, and none reaches six metres.
An electric runabout is at home on lakes, rivers and sheltered coast. What matters most on a used one is the battery: ask for its age, the number of charge cycles and a capacity test, and check the charger and the cabling for corrosion at the terminals. A black hull shows every scratch and can fade in strong sun, so look at the gelcoat in daylight and ask how the boat has been stored. Teak decks want gentle cleaning rather than hard scrubbing. Many of these boats travel on a road trailer, so the trailer's brakes, bearings and lights deserve as much attention as the boat itself.
