G-Force Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
G-Force Yachts is a Dutch builder of racing and performance sailboats, founded in 2004 by Jeroen Wats, with offices in France and Hong Kong. The idea for the company took shape during the 2003 Cape to Rio transatlantic race. Boats are built in small, exclusive runs with performance as the brief. The X-Treme 25 was designed in close cooperation with the Lutra studio and is built in epoxy, while the X-Treme 37 is all carbon. The X-Treme name and a race driven approach to light composite construction are what set these boats apart.
Our model records list eight designs: six sailing yachts and two dinghies. The Fire and the Radical each measure 4.32 metres and are listed from 2005 to 2012. Nearly all the yachts carry the X-Treme name: the G-Force 25 X-Treme at 7.82 metres from 2005 to 2018, the G-Force 26 X-Treme at 7.85 metres from 2013 to 2020, the G-Force 30 X-Treme at 9 metres from 2012 to 2017, and the X-treme 32 at 9.95 metres from 2019 to 2023. The largest boat measures 11.3 metres and appears twice, as the G-Force 37 X-Treme from 2001 and as the X-Treme 37 from 2005 to 2012. The latest entry ends in 2023, so no line reaches the most recent build years.
A raceboat is only as good as its last refit. On a used X-Treme, ask for the sail inventory and the age of each sail, since laminate sails lose shape long before they look tired. Carbon spars and composite hulls deserve an ultrasound or tap test around the keel root, rudder bearings and chainplates, where racing loads concentrate. Check whether the keel has been dropped or repaired after a grounding. Dinghies like the Fire and Radical are simpler, but look at the centreboard case and gudgeons. A boat that has been raced hard and maintained well is often a better buy than one left idle.
