Herr; cover, cost and conditions
In our records, Herr is the builder of the Coaster sailboats, a range of small cruising yachts from the seventies and eighties, plus a single motorboat. We found no reliable details on location, founding or designer, so this page relies on the model data. It shows a compact range for families and cruising sailors on lakes and along the coast. The name Coaster and the number after it make the boats easy to place, as the number roughly gives the length in feet: the Coaster 20 is 6 metres, the Coaster 35 10.6 metres. The Fisherman 750 is different, its number being the length in centimetres.
Our model records list seven Herr designs: six Coaster sailers and the Fisherman 750 motorboat. The Coaster 20 and 24 are classed as sailboats, the 26, 29, 30 and 35 as sailing yachts. Build years run from 1974, when the Coaster 24 appears, to 1987, when the Fisherman 750 ends; most Coasters stop in 1984 and the Coaster 30 in 1985. Lengths go from the 6 metre Coaster 20 to the 10.6 metre Coaster 35, with the Fisherman at 7.5 metres.
Every Coaster is now more than forty years old, so the condition of deck fittings, chainplates and rigging matters more than the model name. The 20 and 24 can still be towed to a new lake, while the larger yachts stay on a berth and come out by crane for the winter. A fresh look at the standing rigging is a sensible first job after purchase.

and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the Fisherman 750 by Herr series: On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.
Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For the Coaster 30, Coaster 26, Coaster 29 by Herr and further series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For the Coaster 20, Coaster 24 by Herr series:
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides.
A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
