Jachtwerf Gebr. De Kloet is based in Kortenhoef in the Netherlands. The name is known above all for the Midget yachts drawn by Martin Bekebrede. Their shape goes back to the fishing boats of Lynæs on the north coast of the Danish island of Zealand, and it shows: a canoe stern, a long keel with an attached rudder, an oval hull section and a wide cockpit behind a high coaming. Hulls were laid up in polyester, with a foam-cored deck. Besides the Midget 26 there was a smaller Midget 20 and the larger Midget 31. The yard now builds aluminium vessels, and according to the source the plans for the older boats are still kept.

The oldest entries are the Fellowship 27, recorded from 1967 to 1981 at 8.2 metres, the Fellowship 28 from 1971 to 2003 at 8.6 metres and the Fellowship 33 from 1976 to 2001, at 10.15 metres the longest boat on the list. The Midget 26 at 8.04 metres starts in our records in 1979 and the Midget 31 at 9.36 metres in 1987. Both reach into the latest build years, as do the six metre Efsix from 2010 and the Wijdemeren Sloep from 2004, a 7.25 metre motorboat. The Sailhorse, also six metres, is listed from 2004 to 2015.
A long-keeled double-ender behaves differently from a modern fin keel boat. It tracks steadily and is gentle in a seaway, but needs room and patience when manoeuvring astern in a crowded harbour. On a used Midget or Fellowship, look at the keel to hull joint, the rudder hangings on the keel and the condition of the foam-cored deck around fittings, where water can find its way in. Many of these boats are thirty or forty years old and have been kept with care by long-term owners, so a full history and a recent survey are worth asking for. They are popular for longer passages.
