Kooijman & de Vries; cover, cost and conditions
Kooijman & de Vries is a Dutch yard for flat bottom sailing craft, the traditional boats with leeboards that sail the IJsselmeer, the Wadden Sea and the inland waters of the Netherlands. Dutch brokerage listings show the yard's Grundel, Zeeuwse Schouw and Vollenhovense Bol with steel hulls. Every model carries the name of a historic type tied to a region or a former working boat: Lemsteraak, Zeeschouw, Schokker, Hoogaars, Staverse Jol, Vollenhovense Bol. Buying one means buying a classic Dutch type, built in series.
Our model records list twelve designs from the yard, eleven sailing yachts and one sailing boat, the Grundel 6,65. The Grundel appears three times (Grundel, Grundel 6,65 and Grundel 8,00) and the Lemsteraak twice, joined by the Hoogaars, Kutter 10 m, Schokker, Staverse Jol, Vollenhovens Boljacht, Vollenhovense Bol and Zeeschouw. Build years run from 1959, when the Lemsteraak starts, to 1993, the last year for the Lemsteraak and Zeeschouw; most other types end between 1976 and 1986. Lengths range from 6.65 metres (Grundel 6,65) to 11 metres (Lemsteraak 11,00).
These are boats for shallow water. With the leeboards up they reach anchorages that keel boats cannot, and drying out on a sandbank is part of the tradition. A steel hull needs steady attention against rust, and gaff rig, blocks and leeboard pivots deserve a check every spring. Many owners keep their boat in a traditional harbour among other flat bottoms, and a dry winter ashore helps both the steel and the wood.

and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the Lemsteraak, Zeeschouw, Schokker by Kooijman & de Vries and further series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For the Grundel 6,65 by Kooijman & de Vries series:
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides.
A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
