Newbridge Boats; cover, cost and conditions
Newbridge Boats was based in the south-west of England; sources name Bridport in Dorset or simply Somerset. The yard began in the early 1970s with a glassfibre version of the Corribee, a little cruiser of about 21 feet that Robert Tucker drew in 1963 and 1964 and named after Loch Corrib in Galway. Newbridge sold it as the Corribee 21. In 1972 Ron Lunney designed the Virgo Voyager for the yard, a strongly built 23 footer with up to five berths. It is recognisable by the wide contrast stripes along the boot-top and coachroof that disguise its high freeboard. After Newbridge closed, N.B. Yachts kept some models in build until 1990. A Corribee later carried Ellen MacArthur around Great Britain.
Our model records list eleven designs from 1965 to 1993, seven small sailing boats and four sailing yachts. The Corribee appears twice, as the Corribee 21 from 1967 and the Corribee 21 II from 1970, both 6.3 metres long. The Virgo line contributes the Virgo 23 and the Virgo Voyager, each 7 metres, the Voyager spanning 1973 to 1992. Then come the Navigator, Venturer and Eclipse, along with the yachts Coromandel, Pioneer Pilot 26 and Spinner. The smallest and oldest boat is the Topaz at 5.33 metres, built from 1965 to 1971; the longest is the Spinner at 8.4 metres. Seven designs stay under seven metres. No line reaches the recent build years; the last entry ends in 1993 with the Navigator.
These are trailer-sailers and small coastal cruisers, and they reward simple, regular care. The Virgo Voyager came with a fin keel, twin bilge keels or a centreboard, and the bilge keel boats can sit upright on a drying mooring. When buying, look at the keel-to-hull joint, especially on bilge keelers that have taken the ground for decades, and check the centreboard case and pivot on boats with a lifting board. An outboard on a transom bracket was an option from the start, so many boats have no inboard at all. Every boat is now more than thirty years old, which makes deck fittings, chainplates and wiring worth a careful look.

That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the Navigator, Virgo Voyager, Venturer by Newbridge Boats and further series:
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides.
A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
For the Pioneer Pilot 26, Coromandel, Spinner by Newbridge Boats and further series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
