Worth knowing
Poca Glasfiber ApS; cover, cost and conditions
POCA Glasfiber ApS is a family owned Danish yard in Hedensted, East Jutland. It was founded in 1967, and the name joins the first letters of the brothers Poul and Carl. Every POCA is still built from fibreglass and entirely in Denmark. The model names follow a clear rule: the older boats carry two digit numbers giving the length in feet, while the current ones use three digits that roughly state the length in centimetres, so a Poca 400 is four metres long and a Poca 770 about 7.7.
Our model records list 26 POCA models: 23 motorboats plus one sailing dinghy, one sailing yacht and one motor sailer. Build years run from 1973 to 2027, and twelve models continue into current production. Lengths go from three to 7.9 metres, half of them between 4.25 and six metres. The early feet series, from the Poca 10 at just over three metres to the Poca 17 at 5.25, was built between 1975 and 1985. The current line runs through the 400, 475, 500, 515, 550 and 570 to the Poca 600, offered as the Erhverv work boat and as MK I to MK III, and on to the Poca 770. The 19 foot Damjolle of 5.6 metres has been built since 2004.
These are practical open boats for fishing, harbour work and family days on the fjord. Most spend the winter ashore and travel by trailer. Value rests on the condition of the laminate and deck fittings, the age and power of the outboard, and how much equipment has been added.

As the Poca 19' Damjolle, Poca 400,
Poca 475 by Poca Glasfiber ApS and 9 more series are still in production,
parts are available and repair costs are predictable.
Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For the Poca 600 GR, Poca 550 GL and Poca 16 by Poca Glasfiber ApS series the market value and the
replacement cost often differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the Poca 400 Sport, Poca 10,
Poca 11 by Poca Glasfiber ApS and 8 more series there is no list price left.
That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the Poca 19' Damjolle, Poca 400, Poca 475 by Poca Glasfiber ApS and further series:
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.
Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For the Poca 24 by Poca Glasfiber ApS series:
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides.
A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
For the Poca 26, Poca IV by Poca Glasfiber ApS series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
