Boat insurance for Lake Chiemsee
Eighty square kilometres of open water, the third largest lake in Germany, a good 70 metres deep: on the Chiemsee a blow has nothing in its way. The danger is not the afternoon thermal but what comes off the mountains. Thunderstorms and the Föhn turn the lake over in minutes, which is why the shore carries storm warning lights: forty flashes a minute means strong wind from force six, ninety means a gale from force eight. Shoals lie off the Achen delta.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October, which is also when the warning service is on. Berths sit in the upper price band, because the shore is largely taken or protected. Boats winter ashore. The quiet zones along the shore and the core zone in the Achen delta are closed to craft and carry a fine; in winter they are the refuge of the waterfowl.
What this means for your policy
The lake belongs to the Bavarian lakes range; a schedule written for Berlin and Brandenburg or the Mecklenburg lakes does not reach it. Bavaria has its own shipping rules: a powered boat needs a Bavarian registration and a number from the district authority. Two questions for your policy: is storm damage at the berth included without an extra clause, and are salvage and wreck removal named with a limit of their own?
