Boat insurance for Havel and Wannsee
Think of the Thames above Teddington, only wider. Lake Wannsee is really a bay of the River Havel, just under three square kilometres and about nine metres deep and, with the Lower Havel between Spandau and Potsdam, is the busiest sailing water in Berlin. The Havel is a federal waterway, so trip boats and push tows come straight through. Damage here comes from crowding more than weather: wash, packed pontoons, close passing.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October. Club berths and marinas at Wannsee, Kladow and Gatow are in demand, prices sit in the upper band and waiting lists are normal. Boats come out of the water for winter, often on a shared club craning day in October. Before you take a berth, ask who carries the risk while the boat hangs on the club crane.
What this means for your policy
The area falls under the Berlin and Brandenburg cruising range. German inland rules apply, and anyone helming a motorboat over 15 hp needs a recognised licence; for visitors the ICC with a CEVNI endorsement is the usual route. Two questions for your policy: is the liability limit high enough for damage to a passenger vessel, and does cover continue while the boat is on a club crane?
