Boat insurance for Lusatian Lake District
Flooded lignite pits: 23 larger lakes, ten of them in the core to be linked by navigable canals. The Senftenberger See has counted as a navigable state water since 2007; since 2013 the Koschen canal runs 1,050 metres through two tunnels and a lock to the Geierswalder See, and since 2019 the Barbara canal carries on to the Partwitzer See. The hazard sits at the edge: the banks are tipped spoil that slides away in a flow slide, so large areas stay closed.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October, berths sit in the middle price band and boats winter ashore. On the Senftenberger See the limit is 15 kilometres an hour, 7 close to the bank, and engines stay off from 22.00 to 05.00. A certificate is required from 15 horsepower up. The sensible precaution: land and make fast only where it is marked. A closed bank is closed because it gives way.
What this means for your policy
These lakes fall under the German inland cruising range, and the detail matters: the Senftenberger See is in Brandenburg, the Geierswalder and Partwitzer lakes mostly in Saxony, so a schedule naming Berlin and Brandenburg alone runs out mid canal. Anyone used to the Norfolk Broads should ask two questions of the contract: are lock and canal damage named, and is going aground included without an extra clause?
