Boat insurance for Upper Havel and Templin lakes
The Upper Havel waterway is the main route from Berlin to the Mecklenburg lakes, and many UK crews know it from a hire boat week. It runs via Zehdenick to Fürstenberg through a chain of locks and narrow lakes, with the Templin waters branching off at Kannenburg. Wind is rarely the issue. Damage happens in the locks, with long queues on summer weekends, and in close quarters with hire boats whose crews are often steering for the first time.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October. Fürstenberg, Zehdenick and Templin have town harbours, clubs and small marinas, with prices in the lower band. Boats winter ashore or in a shed. Before setting off, check the waterway authority's notices: locks close for refurbishment, sometimes for weeks at a time.
What this means for your policy
The area falls under the Berlin and Brandenburg cruising range and borders the Mecklenburg Lake District. The Havel is a federal waterway here, and a motorboat over 15 hp needs a licence recognised in Germany. Two questions for your policy: how is damage in a lock treated, including when another boat causes it, and does the range reach as far as the Müritz?
