Boat insurance for Ruppin Lakes
An hour north of Berlin lies the Ruppin lake district: more than 170 lakes and some 250 kilometres of navigable water. Its spine is the Ruppiner See, fourteen kilometres from Alt Ruppin past Neuruppin to Altfriesack, the longest lake in Brandenburg, narrow and up to 24 metres deep. Five locks sit on the main route, smaller than on the Thames. Most damage here happens in locks and on shallow margins.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October. Neuruppin has a town harbour, plus clubs and small marinas along the shore, with prices in the lower band. Boats winter ashore or in a shed nearby. In the locks, fender both sides and never make a line fast: take it round the bollard and keep the tail in your hand.
What this means for your policy
The area falls under the Berlin and Brandenburg cruising range. Canals and lakes carry their own speed limits, and a motorboat over 15 hp needs a licence recognised in Germany, usually the ICC with CEVNI endorsement. Two questions for your policy: how is damage inside a lock chamber treated, including to the lock itself, and does cover apply to a hire boat you skipper yourself?
