Boat insurance for Lake Schwerin
At just over 61 square kilometres Lake Schwerin is the fourth largest lake in Germany, bigger than Windermere several times over and more than 50 metres deep. A causeway, the Paulsdamm, splits it into the inner lake below the city and the larger outer lake to the north, with a cut through the middle. Out on the outer lake the wind has a long fetch and the sea builds with it. To the south the Stör canal leads to the Elde and on to the Elbe.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October. Schwerin has several clubs and marinas, with more harbours in the villages around the shore and prices in the middle band. Boats winter ashore or in a shed. Before heading from the inner to the outer lake, check wind and sea: what looks calm off the city is often a lot rougher beyond the causeway.
What this means for your policy
The area falls under the Mecklenburg Lake District cruising range. A motorboat over 15 hp needs a licence recognised in Germany, usually the ICC with CEVNI endorsement. Two questions for your policy: does the agreed range run through the Stör canal to the Elde and the Elbe, and how is damage your boat does to someone else's pontoon in a gale treated?

And one level down: the individual marinas, anchorages and mooring fields. To the berths.
