Boat insurance for Spree, Dahme and Müggelsee
The Großer Müggelsee is Berlin's largest lake at 7.4 square kilometres, yet on average barely five metres deep. That is the catch: a westerly builds a short, steep chop across the open water that soon overwhelms a small boat. Motorboats must keep to the buoyed channel, sailing is allowed across the whole lake. To the south the Dahme lakes run on to Königs Wusterhausen, quieter, with hire boats, houseboats and shallow margins.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October. Köpenick, Grünau, Zeuthen and Königs Wusterhausen have clubs, marinas and old boathouses, with prices in the middle band. Boats winter ashore or under a boathouse roof. If yours lies in a boathouse, check the roof can take snow load and that ice cannot pin the hull against the staging.
What this means for your policy
The area falls under the Berlin and Brandenburg cruising range. The Spree and Dahme are federal waterways, the Müggelsee has its own rules for powered craft, and a motorboat over 15 hp needs a licence recognised in Germany, usually the ICC with CEVNI endorsement for UK and Irish owners. Two questions for your policy: how is a grounding outside the channel treated, and does cover extend to your own boathouse?
