Boat insurance for Lake Starnberg and Ammersee
Lake Starnberg covers some 56 square kilometres and runs close to 130 metres deep; the Ammersee has about 47 square kilometres and a good 80. Both count as light wind waters, and that is the trap: thunderstorms and the Föhn turn them over in minutes, and the regional forecast often misses them. Warnings come from the shore as orange lights: forty flashes a minute mean strong wind, ninety a gale. The south end of the Ammersee is a bird sanctuary.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October, which is also when the storm warning service is on. Berths sit in the upper price band, but space itself is the bottleneck: the mooring buoys on Lake Starnberg are administered by the state, and the register is a waiting list measured in years. Boats winter ashore. On a buoy, have chain and shackle checked yearly, because that is where storm damage starts.
What this means for your policy
Both lakes sit in the Bavarian lakes range; a schedule for Brandenburg or the Mecklenburg lakes does not reach them. A combustion engine boat needs a Bavarian permit, and the number is capped: 280 on Lake Starnberg, 150 on the Ammersee, for five years at most. Electric boats fall outside the cap. Two questions: is the Bavarian inland range on the schedule, and is the traction battery in the insured value?
