Boat insurance for Szczecin Lagoon and Usedom
The Szczecin Lagoon covers 687 square kilometres yet averages under four metres deep, so a breeze soon raises a short, hard chop that sends more boats home than the open Baltic does. The German Polish border runs through the middle. The way out to sea is the Peenestrom, with a strong set at times and two lifting bridges, at Zecherin and Wolgast, that open only at fixed times. Think of it as a large, shallow estuary rather than a lake.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October. Ueckermünde, Mönkebude and Kamminke on the lagoon and Wolgast, Kröslin and Freest on the Peenestrom have harbours, with prices in the middle band. Boats winter ashore. Plan around the bridge opening times and do not hold position close to the span in the current.
What this means for your policy
The area falls under the cruising range for Rügen, Usedom and the islands. Lagoon and Peenestrom are maritime waterways, so a motorboat over 15 hp needs a sea licence; for UK and Irish owners that means an ICC with the coastal category. Two questions for your policy: does the range extend across the border into the Polish half of the lagoon, and does it cover the open Baltic off Usedom?
