Boat insurance for Chesapeake Bay
The bay is the largest estuary in the United States and it is shallow: about twenty one feet on average, a quarter of it shallower than six. A dredged channel runs through that shoal water from the Virginia Capes to Baltimore, so ships at full draught cross the same ground you sail. Two things cause most damage: thunderstorms that build within an hour on a summer afternoon, and the crab pot floats off the river mouths, whose lines go straight into a prop.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October and berths sit in the middle price band, because there are many marinas and few of them are full; Annapolis costs more. From November to March most boats are ashore. The northern bay freezes, while further south the wind in an exposed basin is the bigger worry. Staying afloat works in a protected basin with somebody who checks the lines after a blow.
What this means for your policy
The bay belongs to the North American cruising range; a European range does not reach it. Two questions for the contract: what applies to storm and rising water at the berth when a tropical low runs up the bay in late summer, and how damage to shaft and propeller is treated when a stray line fouls them.
