Boat insurance for Flensburg Fjord
The fjord reaches almost fifty kilometres inland, and the German-Danish border runs down the middle of it: a day under sail and you lie at Sønderborg on Als. There is a sheltered corner in any wind direction, which is why the water is popular and crowded. Off the entrance lies the Kalkgrund shoal, whose light is running in emergency mode. Between Flensburg and Gelting a protected area takes in the Geltinger Birk and the Holnis peninsula.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October, berths sit in the middle price band, and dozens of sailing clubs along the fjord keep jetties of their own. Langballigau was dredged in February. Boats come ashore for the winter. The real precaution here is the water level: on the night of 20 October 2023 the Flensburg gauge stood 227 centimetres above mean sea level, higher than at any time since 1872.
What this means for your policy
Flensburg Fjord belongs to the Baltic cruising range, and since the border runs through the middle of the water, the Danish side has to be in it. Two questions to put to your own policy: is storm surge named as a peril in its own right, or only wind above a given force, and is damage to the boat allowed for when the jetty it is lying on breaks away? At Glücksburg in 2023 a pontoon did exactly that as the water fell.
