Boat insurance for Zeeland and the Oosterschelde
Behind the barrier lies tidal water, familiar to a British owner and still demanding. Up to four knots run through the narrow openings of the delta works, and wind against tide builds a steep sea. The barrier closes when three metres above Amsterdam datum are forecast, once a year on average. Since it was built, range and current have fallen by about a sixth and the sandbanks are losing material: the Roggenplaat dries only because sand was pumped on.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October and berths sit in the middle price band. Boats winter ashore, in the open or in a hall. The Veerse Meer and the Grevelingenmeer are dammed off and carry no tidal stream, reached through locks: quieter water, more crowded berths. On the Oosterschelde the tidal almanac is part of passage planning, not an extra.
What this means for your policy
Zeeland belongs to the Netherlands cruising range, and the North Sea beyond the barrier needs a coastal range on top. A licence is required from fifteen metres or twenty kilometres an hour, and the inland grade of the Dutch small craft licence does not count on the Oosterschelde. Two questions for the policy: is grounding on a sandbank named as an event of its own, and does the liability sum meet Dutch requirements?
