Context
How training works in Norway
Norway ties the requirement to your year of birth, which is unusual in Europe. Anyone born in 1980 or later needs the båtførerbevis once the boat is over eight metres or develops more than 25 hp. Older year groups are exempt, which changes nothing about insurance or good sense.
The training is modest and taught almost everywhere, often through the clubs of the Kongelig Norsk Båtforbund. What is demanding is the water: current in the fjords, tide along the coast, and weather that turns within hours.

Foreign certificates are recognised for visitors. Residents need the Norwegian certificate.

Does my policy cover the Norwegian coast?
Only if the cruising area includes it. The Baltic alone is not enough.
