Context
How training works in Switzerland
Switzerland examines in two stages, and that shapes how courses are built. Theory first, identical for power and sail, then the practical test in the chosen category. Many schools therefore teach the theory block jointly and split only for the practical, which pays off if you want both categories.
Lake Constance is a case of its own, with its own certificate and lower thresholds. Anyone boating there takes the Lake Constance certificate regardless of which of the three bordering countries they live in, and schools in Konstanz, Bregenz and Romanshorn teach all three sides.

What the certificate means outside the classroom
Recognition abroad
The Swiss certificate is widely accepted across Europe. Sailing on the high seas under the Swiss flag requires the federal high seas certificate.
What the charter base asks for
Adriatic and western Mediterranean bases accept the Swiss certificate together with a radio ticket; for larger yachts they ask for the high seas certificate or an equivalent.
