Boat insurance for Azores
Horta on Faial is the best known yacht harbour in the North Atlantic. The islands lie on the boundary between the Azores high and the track of Atlantic depressions, which makes spring weather changeable. The harbours are good, but in a southerly there is surge in the basins and boats work on their lines. Passages between the islands bring swell from more than one direction.

What this means for your policy
The Azores belong to the cruising range for the Azores and Cape Verde. Arrival and departure cross open Atlantic and generally require a blue water or worldwide range. Check whether your policy prescribes a minimum crew for such passages.
Questions and answers
What owners ask about this area
Does the policy prescribe a minimum crew for such passages?
No. Our conditions require no minimum number of people on board, not even for Atlantic passages. What they do require is the cruising range in the schedule and the skipper's prescribed licence; single-handed passages are therefore not excluded.
Which cruising range do I need for getting there and back?
The Azores themselves belong to the Azores and Cape Verdes range. The passage there crosses open Atlantic and generally calls for a blue water or worldwide range; with the worldwide range the logbook duty from 300 nautical miles of position change applies.
Horta is crowded and restless in a swell: what does hull cover include at the berth?
If the boat works against the mole, a pontoon or a neighbour, that is a collision and covered from Basis-Plus. Storm comes on top as a named peril in every tariff, from force 8. The lines and fenders themselves are wear and insured in no tariff.
