Boat insurance for Gulf of Naples
What makes this water demanding is not the wind, which is often light in summer, but the traffic: ferries and hydrofoils run close together between Naples, Capri, Ischia and Procida, with around twenty sailings a day to Capri alone. Off Punta Campanella, the headland between the gulfs of Naples and Sorrento, lies a marine protected area: in the core zone navigation, mooring and anchoring are not allowed, and outside it anchoring over seagrass meadows.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October and the place is full in July and August. Berths sit in the expensive band, the one on Capri dearest of all, and in high season it needs booking ahead. Buoy fields off the south coast of Capri and off Positano come cheaper. Boats usually stay afloat over the winter. Procida makes the easiest base for a cruise, a short hop from Naples.
What this means for your policy
The gulf belongs to the Italy, Sardinia and Sicily cruising range, which a contract written for the Solent or the Irish Sea will not reach. Two questions for your own policy: how is a collision in dense ferry traffic treated, and how is damage to a third party buoy and damage caused by one handled? Separately, anchoring in the core zone of the marine park risks a fine from the port authority.
