Boat insurance for Bay of Kotor
The bay is not open coast but a chain of basins joined by narrow channels. The narrowest is Verige, where a car ferry crosses day and night. At the entrance the currents meet, and in a strong southerly a heavy sea builds there and along the customs quay at Zelenika. Summer afternoons bring a thermal breeze; in autumn and winter the bora falls in from inland over the mountains, and shelter changes from one basin to the next.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October and berths sit in the upper price band. The large marina at Tivat lets berths through the winter as well, and a yard at Bijela inside the bay lifts out larger boats. Arriving in a southerly, call the harbour office first and clear in at Kotor or Tivat rather than lie alongside an exposed mole.
What this means for your policy
Montenegro is outside the EU, and the cruising range that counts here is the Adriatic. You clear in before the first anchorage at Bar, Zelenika, Tivat or Kotor and buy the cruising permit. Two questions for the policy: does the agreed range reach south of Croatia, and is a berth in Montenegro written in, including the winter months when nobody looks at the boat?
