Boat insurance for Galápagos
The islands are a national park and world heritage site. Yachts may use only certain anchorages and need a permit, a hull inspection for fouling and an agent. The anchorages are deep and holding is patchy, and sea lions come aboard onto deck and bathing platform. Sailing between the islands is not permitted without a permit.

Berths, season and winter storage
The area is accessible year round; costs are high because agency, fees and inspections are added. There are no berths as such, you anchor. Repair options are very limited.

Does the policy cover environmental damage and the obligations that follow?
Through the liability cover, public-law obligations to remediate environmental damage under the German Environmental Damage Act are included, with their own sum per claim: 3 million euros in Basis, 25 million in Basis-Plus and 50 million in Premium. The cause must have been sudden, accidental and contrary to intended use. In a national park it is best to talk the case through with us beforehand.
Will a salvage inside the reserve be paid for, where only licensed firms may work?
Expenditure to avert or reduce a covered loss is reimbursed even beyond the sum insured, on our instruction or where you could reasonably consider it necessary. If the authority orders salvage or wreck removal, a separate limit applies: up to 1 million euros in Basis-Plus and 2.5 million in Premium. Call before you engage a firm — with a prescribed choice of contractor all the more so.
Deep anchorages with poor holding: what applies if the anchor breaks out?
If the boat drifts, strands or collides, those are accident events from Basis-Plus; the Basis tariff, a partial hull cover, does not include them. The anchor chain itself is wear and insured in no tariff.
