From July to September the meltemi blows from the north, often for days at six to eight on the Beaufort scale. It accelerates between the islands, and the short Aegean sea is unpleasantly steep. The harbours are small and mostly open to the south. Most damage happens in harbour, not at sea: boats work against the quay, lines chafe through, anchors will not hold in a crowded basin.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season is May to September with berths in the low to middle price band. In winter most boats go to Lavrion or the Peloponnese; there is hardly any winter storage on the islands themselves. In the meltemi, plan your legs for the morning, not the afternoon.

Is storm damage at the berth covered even with nobody on board?
Yes. Hull cover does not require anyone to be aboard and knows no time window. Storm is named in every tariff from force 8, and from July to September the Meltemi regularly reaches six to eight. Secure the reading or the official warning with date and time.
Will the policy pay for a securing measure while I am away?
What you spend to avert or reduce a covered loss that has already occurred is reimbursed, even if it fails and even beyond the sum insured. A precautionary measure before anything has happened is not automatically included. Call before you commission anything substantial and we will tell you what is taken on.
The harbours are small and open to the south: what does that mean for the tariff?
That accident cover is what counts here. A boat working against the mole or a neighbour is a collision, and with a lazy line torn out it becomes drifting or stranding — all accident events from Basis-Plus. The Basis tariff, a partial hull cover, includes none of them.
