Shannon
From Lough Allen to Limerick the river runs through a chain of large, shallow lakes. Lough Ree and Lough Derg are open enough for an uncomfortable sea in a westerly, and the shores are stony in many places. The most common losses are groundings outside the marked channel and damage while berthing at exposed jetties.

The season runs from May to September and berths are inexpensive. Winter is mild but wet and windy; ashore storage is still common, because Shannon floods happen regularly and cover the jetties. If you stay afloat, be rigged for rising water.
