Frisian Lakes
Between Sneek, Heeg and Grou lies a network of shallow lakes, canals and weirs connected to the IJsselmeer by locks. Depths are under two metres in many places and the bottom is soft. The typical losses are rarely dramatic but frequent: grounding in mud, bumps in narrow canals and damage while berthing at pontoons that are full all summer.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October and berths sit in the middle price band. Almost every boat comes ashore for the winter, because shallow water can freeze and frost damage to engine and plumbing follows. If you leave the boat afloat, tell your insurer and document the frost protection.
What this means for your policy
For the Frisian lakes your policy needs the Netherlands, not just German inland waters. Anyone locking through into the IJsselmeer and on into the Waddenzee needs a cruising range that expressly includes those coastal waters. Also check that your liability sum meets the Dutch minimum requirements.
