Åland
The archipelago sits exactly in the opening between the Gulf of Bothnia and the Baltic, with heavy ferry traffic straight through it. Between the islands it is sheltered; in between there are open stretches where a sea builds quickly. As everywhere in the archipelago, rock is the main hazard, together with the wash of large ferries in narrow passages.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season is June to August with berths in the middle price band. Winter brings ice, so ashore storage is standard. If you plan the crossing from Stockholm or Turku, know your bolt holes, because the open sections offer little shelter.
