Boat insurance for Apulia
This coast sits where the whole Adriatic drains out. The Strait of Otranto is around 72 kilometres across at its narrowest, between Punta Palascia, the easternmost point of Italy, and Albania, and the surface layer runs out southwards along the Italian side. Ferries leave Brindisi and Bari for Greece and Albania every day. The sirocco from the south east pushes swell into harbours open to the east, and the mistral fills in on summer afternoons.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October and berths sit in the middle price band. Otranto is a sheltered harbour but keeps few visitor berths even outside the season, and the holding outside is good mud. Lifting out and wintering happen mainly at Brindisi, where the yard, the crane and covered storage are on the harbour. Exercise and prohibited areas lie off the coast between Brindisi and Otranto, with times on Navtex.
What this means for your policy
Apulia falls under the cruising range for Italy, Sardinia and Sicily, which a policy written for the Solent or the Irish Sea will not reach. Two questions for your own contract: does it still apply while the boat winters ashore in a yard you do not own, and what does it ask of crew and equipment once night passages and a crossing of the Strait of Otranto are part of the plan? Carry the ICC on board.
