Boat insurance for La Rochelle and the Pertuis
The water runs twice a day and the Pertuis between Ré, Aix and Oléron amplify the tidal wave; what it does also depends on the wind and on the rivers behind it. The channels are narrow and the approach to Les Minimes is dredged to little more than chart datum, with the ground falling away either side. The damage in 2010 came from the level, not the wind: during Xynthia the surge ran about half a metre above the forecast and pontoons and lock gates failed.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October and the hard weather falls in winter. Berths sit in the upper price band, but the real shortage is the berth itself: the port's own figures put the wait for an annual berth at one to three years, and longer for the greater lengths. Hardstanding and covered winter storage are let by the harbour office. Arrival is planned around the tide rather than the clock.
What this means for your policy
This falls under the cruising range for the European Atlantic; a policy written for home waters and a Channel crossing does not reach it, whatever the ICC in the chart table says. Two questions for the contract: is damage at the berth included without an extra clause, even where the pontoon or the lock gate fails and the water comes over the quay, and does it say the boat lies in a tidal harbour and may touch bottom?
