Boat insurance for Languedoc and the Camargue
The shore is low and sandy, lagoons lie behind the beaches, and the harbours are cut into the sand. The wind here comes off the land: the tramontane from the northwest over the Languedoc, the mistral out of the Rhone valley. At Perpignan the tramontane blows on about 115 days a year, most often in winter and in spring. It sets in under a clear sky, and within hours there is a short high sea offshore while the beach still looks calm.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October and berths sit in the middle band. Port Camargue at Le Grau-du-Roi, with over five thousand berths, counts as the largest marina in the Mediterranean; La Grande-Motte, Sète and Cap d'Agde lie along the same shore. If the boat stays afloat through the winter, reckon with tramontane spells of several days and lay out the lines for them.
What this means for your policy
The area belongs to the French Mediterranean cruising range. Two questions for the contract: does the agreed range take in the inland leg as well, if the boat is moved through the Canal du Rhône à Sète or the Canal du Midi, since that is canal water and not coast? And what applies if the boat stays in harbour over the winter while the owner is at home?
