Boat insurance for Liguria and the Gulf of Genoa
The shore is steep and the coves are small and few, so almost every boat lies in a harbour. The danger comes off the sea, not the mountain: the libeccio runs in from the southwest against a coast open to the southwest, and the breakwater takes the swell. In winter the Gulf of Genoa breeds its own depressions and ranks among the most active areas in the Mediterranean. In October 2018 the breakwater at Rapallo gave way and the boats inside were wrecked.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October. Berths are scarce and sit in the upper price band, at their summer peak in the bays around the Portofino headland, while the large marinas of the Levante such as Lavagna take up the demand. Inside the protected area off the headland, buoy fields take the place of the anchor. A winter berth costs much less and falls in the season of the heavy mareggiate.
What this means for your policy
Liguria falls under the cruising range for Italy, Sardinia and Sicily; a policy written for home waters and a Channel crossing does not reach it. Two questions for the contract: is storm damage at the berth included without an extra clause, even where it is the breakwater itself that fails, and is it provided for that the boat lies in a foreign basin for months with nobody nearby?
