This is the far side of the Channel hop, and the tide does more here than at home: at Le Havre springs run a good seven metres and over eight at the top of the range. The hard part sits at the western end, in the Alderney Race between Cap de la Hague and Alderney, where a submerged ridge squeezes the stream. At springs it runs at around ten knots, and with wind against tide the sea builds to four metres.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs April to October, berths sit in the middle price band and boats come ashore for the winter. The gate sets the timetable rather than the weather: at Deauville the town basin lock gives about five hours a tide and the marina alongside is reachable around sixteen hours a day, while Ouistreham lies behind the Caen canal locks. Cherbourg takes you in at any state of tide.
What this means for your policy
This falls under the cruising range for the European Atlantic; a policy written for home waters alone does not reach it, whatever the ICC in the chart table says. Two questions for the contract: is damage at the berth included without an extra clause, even on a berth that dries at low water, and does it say the boat lies in a tidal harbour behind a gate or a lock and may be shut in?
