Boat insurance for Crete
Crete lies across the southern Aegean and the meltemi meets the north coast head on. In July and August days of twenty to thirty knots are the rule, force five to six and at times seven to eight, often a step above the forecast. The water narrows at both ends of the island, off Antikythira to the west and between Kasos and Karpathos to the east, where the wind accelerates and three to four metre seas are usual in a summer gale.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs from April to October, with the quiet windows in May and June and again in September and October. Berths sit in the middle price band. Only Agios Nikolaos has a yard, a lift and hardstanding for the winter; the other harbours along the north coast are basins without that trade. Anyone meaning to winter there books early, because the following winter is often full by February.
What this means for your policy
Crete falls under the cruising range for Greece and the Aegean. Coming down from the Cyclades means about a hundred miles of open water, so this is passage making rather than coastal work, whatever the ICC in the chart table suggests. Two questions for the contract: does the agreed range reach past the island chain to Crete and through the straits at either end, and does it say where the boat lies over winter?
