Boat insurance for Northern Sporades
Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonnisos lie off the Pagasitic Gulf, in the western Aegean. The wind is mostly north to north east, and the Meltemi reaches this corner with less bite than the central Aegean. That does not make it mild: the mountains channel the wind, and gusts fall off the high ground of Skopelos onto boats at anchor. A national marine park surrounds the outer islets, with a strictly protected zone boats may not simply approach.

Berths, season and winter storage
The season runs May to September and berths are cheap to moderate. Skiathos has only a small marina; the larger base, with pontoons, power and water, is Volos. Places ashore for the winter are scarce around the Pagasitic Gulf and the Sporades, a long standing local complaint, so book one early. At anchor, reckon with the gusts off the hills: plenty of chain and a look out of the hatch at night.
What this means for your policy
The Northern Sporades belong to the cruising range for Greece and the Aegean; a policy that ends in home waters or the Channel does not carry this far. Two questions for the contract: is damage at anchor and on a buoy named without an extra clause, and is it recorded that the boat stays in Greece all year, including the months when nobody is aboard to look at her?
