Boat insurance for Middle Rhine
Between Bingen and Koblenz the river squeezes through a rock gorge. The bends at the Loreley take away the view, and that is why traffic on the seven kilometres between Oberwesel and St Goar is run by a radar-monitored warning service: light signals on the bank and a ban on meeting at the Bankeck, the Betteck and the Jungferngrund. No other reach of the Rhine is run that way. Once the gauge passes high water mark II, navigation in the whole section stops.

Berths, season and winter storage
The river works all year; what closes it is the gauge, with high water in the winter half of the year and low water late in the summer, when the readings at Kaub make the news. Berths are in the middle band and lie in the harbour basins of the riverside towns. Boats come ashore for the winter. If you lie on a floating pontoon, look over lines and fenders after every flood.
What this means for your policy
The Middle Rhine sits in the cruising range for the Rhine, the Main, the Mosel and the Neckar, which is a long way from the Solent in distance and in character, so the agreed range is worth reading before the delivery and not after. Two questions for the contract: what is agreed for damage from the wash and suction of commercial traffic, and what applies in a flood to a boat on a pontoon or standing ashore?
