Limits of indemnity of ten to fifty million euros are available for third-party liability, graded across the Basis, Basis-Plus and Premium tariff levels. For the five model ranges from the years 1970 to 1985, four sailing yachts and the Gulfstar 36 Mark-II as a motor yacht, this is the load-bearing layer of the cover.

Limited hull cover or full hull cover is built on top of that. Limited hull cover covers fire, storm, lightning strike, theft of the entire boat and damage in winter storage. Full hull cover adds collision, grounding, vandalism and theft of parts including the outboard, and settles on an agreed value basis.

No information on the country, size or focus of the yard is available, and we add nothing. The premium results from the type of boat, value, year of construction, sail area or engine output and cruising range. The agreed value records the value of these older boats in the policy.

How high can third-party liability be set for a sailing yacht?

The limit of indemnity ranges from 10 to 50 million euros. Which level fits depends on the waters and the way the boat is used; Basis, Basis-Plus and Premium make up the choice.

Are a sailing yacht and a motor yacht from the same yard rated differently?

Yes, for the sailing yacht the sail area counts, for the motor yacht the engine output. Type of boat, value, year of construction and cruising range are included in both cases.

A powerboat licence (inland or coastal) is required from 15 hp (11.03 kW).

Registration

What this means for the cover

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.

On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.

On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
