Premium from
from €39 a year for a sailing boat, from €49 for a motorboat
Worth knowing
Vega; cover, cost and conditions
Inland lake or coast: the cruising range is one of the details from which the premium is derived. Under Vega, 41 model ranges are recorded, from motorboats of the seventies and eighties to sailing boats that have been built since 2005 and are still built today.
The range extends from the Vega Pioneer through the 525 and 600 to the Balaton 25 and 295. We calculate motorboats via engine power and sailing boats via sail area, in each case together with value, year of construction and cruising range. We have no information assigning the brand to a country.
For trips across the border you receive the international certificate of insurance automatically in ten languages. In the hull cover there is no time window and no night clause, and club races are included from the Basis-Plus tariff level onwards.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Does the premium change with the sailing area?
The cruising range is one of the factors alongside type of boat, value, year of construction, engine power or sail area. Inland and coastal waters are rated differently, the brand not at all.
Are boats from the seventies still insurable?
Yes. We insure regardless of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners. The value is agreed as an agreed value, and full hull cover pays compensation with no deduction for depreciation.
The cover that fits
For the whole class of boat
What matters for your boat depends less on the brand than on engine output, how a claim is settled and the waters you sail.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
