Worth knowing
Björn Boote; cover, cost and conditions
Two motorboats are held in our portfolio, the Björn 500 built from 1998 to 2004 and the Björn 550 built from 2000 to 2006. Production therefore lies in the past, and every boat of these ranges is a used boat today. For the value we set an agreed value, which is paid out in the event of a claim with no deduction for depreciation (new for old).
With older boats, owners often ask whether the engine and the equipment are still replaced in full after so many years. In the Premium tariff, compensation is paid with no deduction for depreciation and without any age limit. What forms part of the agreed value is recorded in the schedule when you take out the policy.
We have no further details about the yard, and in any case it is the boat that is insured and not the name on it. We accept boats regardless of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners, including boats from small production runs. The premium follows from the type of boat, the value, the year of construction, the engine power and the cruising range.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Is a deduction for depreciation applied to a boat from the nineties?
No. We pay compensation with no deduction for depreciation, in the Premium tariff without any age limit. What counts is the agreed value that you set with us when taking out the policy.
Can older boats be insured without a complete history?
Yes. We insure regardless of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners. For the contract we need the details of the boat itself, not a complete chain of owners.
The cover that fits
For the whole class of boat
What matters for your boat depends less on the brand than on engine output, how a claim is settled and the waters you sail.

Series by Björn Boote, build years and cover
Björn 550 is a motorboat from Björn Boote, built from 2000 to 2006.
Björn 500 is a motorboat from Björn Boote, built from 1998 to 2004.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
